There’s something to be said about spending a quiet Christmas morning after opening presents, walking along the beach with the sun shining brightly overhead, basking in its warmth, feeling a peace and tranquility that reaches deep into your soul. Some may think a Christmas without snow is like ice cream without a cone, but we think it’s the only way to spend the winter holiday, and we think you will agree as well. Just think, no icy roads, no bone chilling cold, no gray skies…just sun, sand, blue skies and the distant sound of Christmas carols being sung against the backdrop of waves crashing to the shore.
The weather here is delightful
With December’s average high temperature a balmy 63 degrees, shorts and tee shirts can be your holiday attire…and don’t forget the flip-flops! Remember what you wore last Christmas? The tacky, but warm, Christmas sweater, layered over silk long johns, flannel lined jeans, wool socks and ugly boots that really do nothing to keep your feet warm! To go outside you had to bundle up in more layers, including those strange hats with the ear flaps, and gloves that make it difficult to do anything with your hands! And still, in spite of all the layers of clothing, you felt cold, cold, COLD! Wouldn’t it be more fun to jingle all the way home in your summer clothes with a light tan on your face? You can have all that and more when you spend your Christmas on the Island with us!
Decking the halls and other yuletide activities on St. Simons Island
And since Christmas is a holiday that lasts the entire month, we are sure you will be thrilled with all the yuletide activities we celebrate with. Rediscover the magic of Christmas on the Golden Isles with the annual Hofwyl Plantation Christmas…drink mulled wine, eat cookies and listen to Christmas carols as you explore the beautiful Southern rice plantation by candlelight…just as Christmas was celebrated during it’s heyday in the 1850s. (In Brunswick, Georgia) Shop for unique gifts for your family at the annual Pier Village Holiday Market which specializes in painting, pottery, jewelry and so much more! (On St. Simons Island) The Christmas Boat Parade of Lights will amaze and delight all visitors…Christmas parades are just a little more special when celebrated by sailboats festooned with colored lights, flying across the water, framed against the night sky. (Brunswick Landing Marina, toward the Sidney Lanier Bridge and back) And the Christmas Bagpiper brings a unique spin to the holiday season as he strolls the streets of Jekyll Island, kilt and all, playing holiday music for you to enjoy as you view the lights of the Jekyll Island Historic District.
