While every season on St. Simons Island is wonderful, we hold a special place in our hearts for spring, the season of promise, romance, and flowers that fill the air with their aromatic scents. All the gloomy days of winter have passed, and the sultry heat of summer is still weeks away, making this season the best one for holding outdoor events and festivals. If you’re planning on visiting at this time, we’ve compiled this list of the best St. Simon’s Island events and festivals of the year!
Ghosts and Legends of Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation
Held every Saturday in the month of March and costing only $15 per person, thrill seekers will have the opportunity to explore one of Georgia’s most haunted plantations, the Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation in nearby Brunswick, and hear the tales of the people who once lived, loved, and worked in this historic structure. The chance of having your own ghostly encounter is high, so only the bravest should attempt this tour!
Glynn Visual Arts Presents Art in the Park Fine Art & Craft Festival
April 14 & 15 are the dates for this exposition of the best artists and crafts people in the region, held from 10AM until 5PM both days in Postell-Park Pier Village on St. Simons Island. Featuring art from all genres, as well as beauty products and tasty gourmet treats, if you brought your children, there is a Creation Station that allows them to have some fun, too!
Jekyll Turtle Crawl Triathlon & Nest Fest
The endangered Georgia sea turtles are gentle creatures that deserve better than they have received; what better way to help than with a triathlon from which the proceeds are donated to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center? Held May 11 through 13 on Jekyll Island, a Turtle Crawl festival takes place alongside the triathlon adding to the fun with live music, food, and adult beverages, making it one of our favorite St. Simon’s attractions.
Blessing of the Fleet – St. Simon’s Attractions
Since you’re already in town for the triathlon, you might as well head over to Brunswick for the Annual Blessing of the Fleet held on 5/13. The shrimp boats are blessed to help them have a safe and successful shrimping season in this festival that started in 1938.
