It’s no secret; Christmas is our favorite time of year, and although many people think of our island as a place for summer fun, once they experience our winter excitement, they realize that St. Simons Island is really a year-round vacation destination. In addition to the twinkling Christmas lights, visits to Santa, and the boat parade, there’s just something seasonally peaceful about a beach on a cold winter’s day or night (though temperatures can almost reach freezing at night, so bring something warm to wear on your moonlight strolls along our beautiful beaches!) So, if you’re looking for somewhere new to visit during this Christmas vacation, here’s some hints to point you in the right direction!
Lighthouse Trolley’s Christmas Tour of Lights
St. Simons Island Christmas without colorful lights twinkling on the houses you pass wouldn’t be Christmas at all, and the Lighthouse Trolley’s Christmas Tour of Lights allows you to view the best light displays on the island without having to bother with the mess and fuss of traffic! Costing $20 for adults and $10 for kids, this inexpensive activity will be the highlight of your children’s vacation. A “surprise” visit with the jolly old elf himself is included in the cost of the tickets!
Santa Visits by Boat in Pier Village
Because you can never have enough opportunities to meet Santa, he also visits our wonderful island by boat! This years visit happened on December 9th, thrilling children of all ages as they had the chance to tell the bearded St. Nick their dreams for a Merry Christmas. Parents, don’t forget your camera!
Annual St. Simons Island Christmas Boat Parade, Mary Ross Waterfront Park – Brunswick Landing Marina
Everyone loves a parade, and when the parade is filled with boats decorated in their holiday finest, we can’t help but fall a little deeper in love! Brunswick Landing is the spot for this unique parade, and although this year’s parade has already been held, it’s never too early to start planning for next year! Held the first Saturday of December, this parade is the best way to welcome the holidays!
Oceanfront Ice Skating on Jekyll Island
If you’ve never ice skated while the roar of the ocean overpowers the sound of holiday music, now is the time to experience this once in a lifetime activity! Starting in November and lasting through the middle of January, our sister island Jekyll Island welcomes the cooler days with a synthetic ice skating rink guaranteed to put a Christmas pep in your step—or in this case, in your glide!
